Acne scars are rarely a single problem. Most clients present with more than one scar type, often alongside active or recent breakouts, and frequently with post-inflammatory marks layered on top. A standard protocol applied to that mix tends to under-deliver on some areas and irritate others.
A tailored plan also depends on life stage and skin context. For example, for a teenage client whose acne is still active, scarring work is generally not the priority until the underlying acne has settled. Aggressive laser work on actively inflamed skin can make things worse,
and new scarring can continue to form while breakouts are ongoing.
Meanwhile, for an adult whose acne has settled but whose scars remain, the plan may combine deeper laser work with peels, topical maintenance, and sometimes targeted approaches, such as polynucleotide injections or subcision, for stubborn depressed scars.
At Journey Aesthetics, every acne scar plan starts with an assessment of the actual mix on your skin. Dr Chia will talk through which approaches make sense, in what order, and over what kind of timeline. The goal is gradual improvement built around what your skin will tolerate well.
